At what moment did you know you want to be a singer?
I don’t remember the exact moment that I knew I wanted to sing. But I do remember having a deep desire to perform from around the age of 4. My dad is a pianist and he used to take me to different concerts within our church circle. He says I would beg him to sing everywhere we went and I do remember doing that. I just loved the stage and performing felt very natural for me.
Who is your favourite singer?
Sorry, I can’t pick just one! I love Lianne La Havas, Lauryn Hill and Esperanza Spalding.
Who would your dream duet be with?
This is such a hard question but I’m going to say Lauryn Hill.
You’re an advocate for healthy self-esteem, where did that passion come from?
It came from struggling with my own self-esteem for many years. While I was a teenager I spent all of my time never feeling good enough this continued into much of my twenties also. I have come through all of that now and realise that I am beautiful. I want to help anyone who has felt like that or is still feeling like that. I have a blog called Be Uniquely You which is all about celebrating individuality and I’m so happy to release music about the same.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I would love to be known as someone who cared and loved people. Someone who inspired, encouraged and helped to make peoples life’s better.
