THE WINTER WARDROBE UPGRADE

The clocks have turned back and the temperature has dropped. It’s official the season has changed and the time to dust off that winter coat has come. For some of us this time of year is a fashion fave but for others, practicality can so often take the place of style – this does not have to be the case. The winter wardrobe need not be boring.

At Valour we have some tips that can help you inject a little life into your autumn/winter wardrobe and take it up a level. From the runway to the high street there are some great trends that will add some inspiration and timeless style to the winter wardrobe:

It’s a cinch – after a summer of flowy silhouettes find your waistline again by grabbing your belts and get to cinching. Even if you don’t have the most defined waistline this trend is still for you. Cinching it in with a thin belt, chain belt or even a wide belt (yes wide belts are making a comeback) can give a chic and polished look. Tailored pieces also can help with creating the illusion of a waistline. Think high waist skirts and trousers that will help define the waist and make you look the business this autumn.
Start here: Add a little shape to a loose off the shoulder jumper with a belt to achieve the look.

Vibrant and bold – Go Red. Red is a very festive colour and when done right from head to toe can make for a very high-end look. Think wide leg red wool trousers with a chunky red turtleneck jumper (a la Tracee Ellis Ross). This is the ultimate power colour of the season, you can wear it in pieces to test the waters but to get the full effect of this colour try wearing it from head to toe for a striking look that will make you stand out and be bang on trend. Embrace this bold colour unreservedly.
Start here: Try wearing pieces of red for example a red lip colour that matches a red jumper and red accessory like a clutch bag.

Think texture – Add the touch of velvet to your everyday wardrobe. This was a runway favourite with designers from Erdem using marigold hues to Dior’s adding midnight blue shades to their collection. It will serve as a welcome addition as it can be worn both casually and dressed up, especially as we festive season draws nearer. You can inject this look into your wardrobe by replacing your ankle boots or flats with a velvet variant – quickly adding a touch of glam to any outfit.
Start here: Grab a jewel tone velvet piece and team with jeans to upgrade a casual look.

Don’t be afraid to have a little fun with your A/W wardrobe. Good style is always in season.
