PATRICIA BRIGHT ON HER FAITH AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE

From britpopprincess to being one of the biggest YouTube stars in the world, Patricia Bright has come a long way since she first graced our screens in her university days. The word driven does not suffice to explain her work ethic, acclaimed as one of the most consistent content creators, it’s no surprise that the South-London native continues make waves in the industry. She talks to me about her journey, her motivativation and her next move.

What inspired you to start your YouTube channel?

I wanted to create an outlet where I could express myself through fashion, beauty and hair. At the time I was a student who was simply vlogging her clothing hauls to share my passion for fashion with an online community.

At what point did you start blogging full time, how did you know it was the right time?

My background is actually in finance, so I used to be a City girl living the City life until I realised finance no longer had my heart. Since then I started blogging full time and consistently putting out content. Back then I didn’t really know it was the right time, I just had faith and a fire that wouldn’t burn out. I also did some practical calculations (cue spreadsheets) and worked that if I put everything into my channel, I’d be in the position to make more money doing what I loved than the day job.

How has the beauty blogging landscape changed for you in the past five years?

There are new players in the game popping up all the time, staying relevant and maintaining your engagement is more than just shooting a pretty video. You have to balance this with staying true to who you really are. Also, there are a lot more (cult) beauty brands in the space taking over from traditional brands because they’re getting a lot of attention due to popular culture.

Considering you are your brand – how do you establish work/life balance?

Meticulous planning and lots of support from loved ones.

What is your number one beauty tip?

Always carry a good lip balm and some face wipes in your purse!

God has brought me this far and has allowed me to be at the right place at the right time

How has your faith shaped your journey?

Tremendously! I’ve always been very vocal about my faith, I refuse to hide the fact that God has brought me this far. He has allowed me to be at the right place at the right time to tap into the opportunities presented to me.

What motivates you?

My husband, my child and my family. Without them, I wouldn’t be half the woman I am.

If you could say one thing to a 25-year-old Patricia – what would it be?

“Feel the fear and do it anyway.” One of my favourite quotes!

What advice would you offer someone considering starting a YouTube channel?

I would say invest in a good camera and be consistent with creating and posting content. Do it for the passion!

What can we expect next from you?

There’s loads to come, I have some really exciting releases throughout the year. I’m launching a course, guiding boss babes on how to run a business within a social media world. I have a book coming out towards the end of the year and Y-Hair, my e-commerce hair company has recently relaunched online! But for the near future more content, more videos and more life experiences to share with my beautiful audience.
