It’s here. The 14th day of the second month of the year, more commonly known as Valentine’s Day. Personally, Valentine’s Day is just a normal day for me. I believe every day is a day to celebrate those you love. I’m not just talking about lovers, I’m talking about loving friends, family members, neighbours! Why wait for one day in a year to make someone feel special? What I do take from today, however, is a great opportunity to give to those you care about.
When we choose to adopt a heart of giving we are expressing God’s love to others. ‘’Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-5)
The act of giving can really bless others, it can uplift them and make them feel special. So, let us choose to be thoughtful givers and love like Christ. Here are a few ways to express your love towards those you care about this Valentine’s Day:
A love letter – Simple, sweet and right from the heart. It can’t get any better than that! Write a letter expressing why and how this person is special to you, express the love you have for them and why life with them is meaningful.
A hamper – How thoughtful would it be to compile a big box full of all of the things your fave loves? This is special because it shows you listen and acknowledge all the little things that make them smile.
A day trip – There is nothing better than quality time. Take your special person for a day out it could be for a meal to watch a movie or even to go for a walk. Express to that person that you value their time and that being with them makes your life that much better!
Prayer – This is one of the sweetest and most powerful things you can do for someone, it can cause tremendous changes. Lay your hands over them and simply speak over their life.
And of course, be good to yourself. Self-love is key, make your favourite meal, eat your favourite ice cream or go watch your favourite movie take care of you! Happy Valentine’s Day!
